David McCullough has proven to be a great story teller of the Revolutionary period in America, and this book on John Adams is an exceptional story.  McCullough is very readable and insightful in his approach to Adams.  Of course, this book was the basis for the HBO mini-series on Adams, and is well worth seeing.  Adams is one of the most curious of the founders.  He was brilliant, cranky, devout, egotistical, absolutely essential to the independence movement in America and has been one of the least respected – yet most deserving - men in American history, as this book explains.  My appreciation for Adams was magnified several times by reading this book.  This book also tells the story of Abigail Adams and their incredible relationship.  This is possibly  the most famous marriage in our nation’s history and probably should be if its not.  They were an amazing team and Abigail was John’s equal in many respects – including intellectually and in her passion for her nation and her religion.
